Employer branding done well and with care can be of immense value to a company. Employer branding is the systematic building and development of a company’s image in the minds of job seekers and employees. Studies show that high quality employer branding can lead to better well-being and commitment of current employees, attract desired new candidates, and make recruiting easier and more efficient, and positively impact stakeholder support and the company’s results.

The Magnet Employer Branding Awards aims to celebrate and bring awareness to the creativity and necessity of employer branding, as well as support cooperation and sharing of knowledge between companies and fields. The awards are granted for best initiatives in building and conceptualizing an employer image. In recent years employer branding has seen growing interest in Finland, with demand for its consultation continuously increasing.

A wide range of well-known companies nominated

The non-profit competition was originally founded in 2014 by Norwegian Hans Petter Stub. It has since been exported across borders to Sweden and Finland. Stub was also one of the twelve carefully selected jury members deciding the best of the entries. The winners will be announced in the event held at Miltton House, Haapaniemi, Helsinki, on Wednesday, April 24. The event takes place 12–7pm.

The companies are competing in four categories: Best Employer Brand Campaign, Creating an Employer Brand, Engaging Employee Advocacy Initiative ja Wild Ideas. In addition, one finalist will be awarded Grand Prix: Most Magnetic Employer Brand.

On top of the organizational categories, there are two individual categories: Employer Brand Professional (agency) and Employer Brand Professional (inhouse).

Altogether 20 entries are shortlisted in 2024. The companies nominated in different categories are Fazer, If, Kesko, Mehilänen, Sweco, Lähitapiola, OP Ryhmä, Caverion, Nordea, PxC Finland, Sitowise, Valtra / AGCO, Airbus Defence and Space, CGI, Innofactor, Terveystalo and Yle.

Respectively, the individuals shortlisted in the inhouse-category are Anna Ahokas, Fortum, Erja Vilja, OP Ryhmä, Helidona Dehari, Nordea, Maiju Karppinen, Airbus defence and space, and Reetta Rautkivi, Mehiläinen.

An afternoon full of inspiration and learning opportunities

In the competition’s spirit of sharing and cooperating, Miltton won’t be hosting the event alone. On Wednesday, April 24 the event will be held together with recruitment and employer branding company Finders Seekers and employer branding companies Universum and Instar EBC. The main sponsor of the 2024 competition is Jobly.

In the event we will learn from the winners and inspiring guest speakers. Kadi Poll from Bolt, Christina Poulsen from Metso and Anna Bertoldini from NielsenIQ will all take the stage to share their curious insights on various related topics. The event itself will be hosted by Lotta Backlund.

More information on the event and ticket sales can be found in magnetawards.fi. The event will begin on Wednesday, April 24 at 12pm.

It’s great to see the variety in the finalists and how they have been bold enough to move from blending in to standing out. It’s evident both in why they develop things and how they tell their employer story. These days in Finland the norm in employer branding is less about informing and more about transforming.
