The 2025 conference explored current security policy questions and examined the emerging (dis)order in the world with its implications on the security of Finland and Europe as a whole. In addition to keynote speeches, the event featured four themed discussions on security technology, will to defend and preparedness as well as a discussion on NATO’s future role.

Insight

  1. The disorder in the world should be seen as the new norm, and our own operations should be strengthened.

  2. In the current situation, strong alliances and allies are the best form of preparedness.

  3. Finnish will to defend is stronger than ever before.

Background thinking

Our security environment has been undergoing significant transformation and constant change, especially in recent years.

We cannot be certain today of what tomorrow will hold. Global driving forces and power structures, technological transformation, and economic development all challenge a secure future. External forces and cultural change also challenge our internal security and our ability to interpret information floods, affecting our will to defend.

Security affects various actors and stakeholders broadly. Effective future solutions are built together by considering different perspectives. The goal of the Kouvola Security Conference is to bring together a wide range of societal actors from different backgrounds to discuss and provide perspectives and solutions to current security issues over the course of two days. The process is facilitated by interesting and topical presenters and panel discussions. Interesting established operators and newcomers exchange views and ideas not only during the conference but also at dinners, coffee breaks, and in the corridors of Kouvola City Hall.
