This January, I had the opportunity to attend Workiva’s Fuze 2025 event that offered a first-hand look at the company’s strategic focus areas for the year ahead. Workiva is the only reporting software globally that unites financial reporting, sustainability and audit & risk. As someone deeply involved in the world of corporate reporting and sustainability, this was an exciting opportunity to gain insights, build connections, and see how a global leader like Workiva is shaping the future of reporting.
A front-row seat to the future of reporting: 3 takeaways from the Fuze 2025 -event
“No matter where we’re from, reporting professionals share a common language—one that connects us in ways we might not even realize”. Camilla Linniemi recently had an eye-opening reminder of this in the last place she expected: Las Vegas.
Takeaway 1: Sustainability is still at the forefront in the US
While the political landscape in the U.S. is shifting – with leadership changes making headlines, including Donald Trump’s decision to sign a petition to exit the Paris Climate Agreement – the key message at Workiva Fuze was refreshingly different: CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive) and sustainability are at the forefront.
The CSRD legislation is set to reshape corporate reporting across the EU, impacting over 55,000 companies – regardless of whether their headquarters are inside or outside Europe. This marks a fundamental shift in how businesses integrate sustainability into their operations, strategy, and, most importantly, their reporting practices.
At Miltton, we are already working on the first ESRS (European Sustainability Reporting Standards) reports, and, as always, Finland is among the frontrunners in regulatory compliance. This alignment between Workiva’s expertise in reporting software and Miltton’s leadership in sustainability advisory means there is plenty of common ground for collaboration.
Takeaway 2: Sustainability is in every facet of business
CSRD is embedding sustainability into every facet of business, so companies will need an end-to-end solution to ensure compliance and transparency. Workiva offers a full suite of solutions to simplify sustainability reporting, covering:
- DMA (Double Materiality Assessment) and Gap Analysis
- Policies, risks, and controls
- Data collection and carbon calculation
- Metrics, performance, and design
- Machine-readable, tagged reports
At Miltton, we complement this by providing a full-scope CSRD service, from strategy to execution. We help companies kick off their DMA assessments, train leadership teams, and establish new policies—from due diligence and human rights compliance to crafting high-quality sustainability reports.
Not only are we Workiva’s only enhanced design partner in the Nordics, but we are also proud to be a Managed Service Provider for Workiva, allowing us to bring this tool to small and mid-sized companies as they prepare for the upcoming CSRD waves.
Not only reporting
One of the standout moments of Workiva Fuze was Kim Scott’s keynote. As an acclaimed author and former executive at Apple and Google, she shared lessons on how to build high-performing teams, create leadership that fosters commitment, and—most importantly—, how to get things done effectively.
Beyond the conference hall, another personal highlight was seeing The Killers perform live at the legendary Caesars Palace—a perfect ending to an inspiring trip. With “Mr. Brightside” still playing in my head, I left Las Vegas with fresh energy, new ideas, and a renewed passion for the future of reporting.
Takeaway 3: The future of reporting is here
Attending Workiva Fuze confirmed a trend that has been evident for years: sustainability and regulatory compliance are no longer optional – they are essential for business success. With CSRD transforming corporate reporting across industries, companies that embrace technology-driven, transparent, and integrated sustainability reporting will be best positioned for the future.
With Miltton and Workiva working together, we are excited to support companies in navigating this shift, making sustainability reporting not just a requirement – but a strategic advantage.
