Ilmatar – A Nordic Leader in Renewable Energy

Ilmatar is an independent electricity producer and renewable energy developer operating in the Nordic region. When the company underwent a major strategic shift, moving from selling electricity to consumers to focusing on wind power development, it also needed a complete overhaul of its website.

Launched in early 2024, Ilmatar.com serves both the Finnish and Swedish markets, acting as the central platform for all stakeholder communications.

Bringing the brand to life in digital channels

Miltton worked with Ilmatar to define key design principles, or “design drivers,” that would guide the website’s structure and user experience. These drivers — covering visual, functional, and content-related aspects — formed the foundation of the entire website concept.

The core idea of the website was to complement public discussions about wind power by providing Ilmatar’s perspectives and countering skepticism about the green transition with fact-based insights.

The websites’s primary target audiences landowners, local policymakers, and other key stakeholders, who need clear and transparent information about Ilmatar’s operations. Additionally, the site was designed to attract potential employees, positioning Ilmatar as an appealing workplace with lots of future opportunities.

“Miltton successfully merged our three separate websites into a unified, clear, and user-friendly platform in three different languages. The website redesign was seamlessly integrated with our brand refinement project, ensuring a smooth and flexible process.”

Easy maintenance for admin users

Built on WordPress, the renewed website combined 3 separate websites as a unified whole, with a strong focus on ease of use for administrators. One key feature is the project archive, which showcases Ilmatar’s wind power projects at different stages of development. These projects are automatically updated via system integrations, allowing users —such as local policymakers and landowners — to explore them through an interactive map view, all without the need for input from the website admin.

Continuing development maximizes impact

Since the websites launch, Miltton has continued working on it, implementing both minor improvements and major updates throughout the year. Additional content has also been created, including articles, employee stories, and insights on Ilmatar’s responsible business practices.

Miltton tackled our challenges, including complex system integrations, with enthusiasm and a problem-solving mindset — delivering creative solutions tailored to our needs.”
