Kivinen’s career has been shaped by situations where strategic thinking, international cooperation, and operational capability under pressure have played a decisive role.
“General Kivinen’s expertise is highly valuable at a time when defense, security of supply, and security policy are facing unprecedented pressures—but also opportunities,” says Miltton Group’s Deputy CEO Kaius Niemi.
“Kivinen also has long-standing experience with Ukraine, where Miltton has had an office for the past two years. He served as a military attaché in Ukraine around the turn of the millennium. Particularly noteworthy is the recognition he received from Ukraine’s top leadership during Russia’s war of aggression.”
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine awarded Kivinen the 1st Class Order of Merit in recognition of his contributions and long-term commitment to supporting Ukraine’s defence.
Kivinen’s appointment strengthens Miltton’s strategic development toward new areas of expertise, particularly in the international defence and security sectors. He complements Miltton’s team of experts, which also includes Lieutenant General Arto Räty, a board member of Nordic West Office. Together, Kivinen and Räty form a unique strategic knowledge hub that enhances Miltton’s and Nordic West Office’s ability to support clients in navigating a rapidly evolving international environment.
Last year Miltton published a guide titled “Doing business with NATO”, offering practical advice for companies seeking to understand and leverage business opportunities with NATO. You can read the guide here.
