Pasi Kuoppamäki appointed Chief Economist for Miltton and Nordic West Office

Miltton and Nordic West Office have appointed Pasi Kuoppamäki as Chief Economist. Kuoppamäki is one of Finland’s most well‑known economists and economic experts. His long career in the financial sector and in economic policy brings Miltton additional expertise and advisory capacity in macroeconomics and market trends.

Companies and organizations increasingly need to understand their changing operating environment: to understand markets, anticipate shifts, manage related risks, and turn them into opportunities. Decision‑making requires continuous interpretation of signals, assessment of political and geopolitical risks, and the ability to foresee how global trends will impact Nordic and global markets. Kuoppamäki’s appointment strengthens Miltton’s ability to support clients in this environment by providing analysis that helps turn uncertainty into opportunity.

With this appointment, Miltton is building a service focused on market insight, combining economic analysis, geopolitical understanding, and real-time, data‑driven information and monitoring. Clients can now integrate this analysis into Miltton’s broader advisory services in strategy, communications, investor relations, and public affairs.

“Markets and geopolitics are becoming increasingly intertwined. Companies are now facing both rapid shocks and long-term structural changes at the same time. Geopolitical fragmentation, security uncertainties, climate and environmental pressures, economic risks, regulatory changes, technological transformation, and capital market volatility are just a few examples. The more complex the challenges our clients face, the more diverse our advisory must be. At this moment, it is essential that someone with Pasi’s economic authority joins our team,” says Sanna-Mari Jäntti, Miltton’s Head of new markets.

“The Finnish and European economies are undergoing a transformation in which economic fundamentals, geopolitical tensions, and technological development are becoming intertwined in ways that challenge traditional analytical models. Companies now need a partner who can combine facts, deep insight into environmental trends, and strategic thinking. At Miltton, I can bring economic analysis into this whole and help clients make better decisions grounded in data and facts,” says Pasi Kuoppamäki.

Kuoppamäki’s appointment builds on Miltton’s long-term investment in understanding societal change. Nearly ten years ago, Miltton was the first in its industry to appoint a Chief Economist. Since then, the operating environment has become increasingly complex, interdependent, and volatile. At the same time, clients’ need for a partner who can interpret both global forces and the local reality of Northern Europe has grown significantly.

With Pasi, our clients gain access to a rare combination of macroeconomic insight and capital markets expertise. This helps them justify their strategic choices to investors more convincingly –especially in uncertain markets, where clear and active communication is essential to strengthening investor confidence.

“Understanding and analyzing economic policy has become central as Finland prepares for the 2027 parliamentary elections and government negotiations. The impact of global economic fluctuations on companies’ operating environments has also increased significantly. With Pasi’s macroeconomic expertise, we can continue developing better data‑driven situational awareness with our clients and provide timely, fact‑based public affairs advice.”

Today, strategy is above all the ability to make choices in a reality where the economy, society, and global forces set tighter constraints than before. A winning strategy is not based on the boldest promises, but on ambition tested against realism. Pasi’s arrival at Miltton strengthens this considerably. His labor market and economic expertise won’t remain background information – it will act as a reality test for strategic decisions: what is genuinely possible, sustainable, and competitive in this moment.”
